Rail is vital to the Russian economy
Railway system is a crucial part of Russian economy, rail transportation accounts for 87%* of all freight turnover and the Russian rail network is the second longest in the world.
The railway industry is currently one of the last state monopolies undergoing liberalisation, providing scope for increased competition and compelling market opportunities. For most Russian industries, particularly in the natural resources sectors, there is no alternative to rail transportation.

Technical modernisation is the only way forward
Demand for railcars is high, fleet size is increasing while rail infrastructure is lagging behind. In these conditions, technological renovation of rolling stock has become the only way forward.
