150 new flat cars for timber transport
In Russia, rail car manufacturer United Wagon Company (UWC) and railway transportation company VTG Rail Russia have signed a contract for the supply of 150 flat cars fitted with bogies with a 25 t axle load for timber products. The shipment is set to be completed by the end of this year.
The new equipment allows operators to reduce the fleet size required for transporting timber thanks to the platform's higher loading capacity of 74 t and its increased loading volume of 122 cbm.
According to UWC, every car significantly reduces average transportation costs per tonne of freight, because the car is able to accommodate up to 10 cbm of freight more than similar standard models.
