United Wagon Co subsidiary TikhvinSpetsMash has obtained certification enabling the production of flat wagons with a capacity of 80 tonnes for transporting 40 ft containers or tank-containers with hazardous loads.

Designed by the All-Union Research & Development Centre for Transportation Technology, the type 13-6851-05 wagon has 25 tonne axleload bogies and a reinforced structure suitable for carrying heavy containers, with T3 draw gear for the safe transportation of tank-containers.

The wagons are designed for scheduled maintaince intervals of 800 000 km or eight years, with a service life of 40 years.

According to UWC, demand for flat wagons in Russia is growing as a result of increased containerisation and a recovery in the volume of import traffic, which was up 27% year-on-year in the first half of 2017.
