United Wagon starts castings shipment for North American freight cars
United Wagon Company's Russian manufacturing facility Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant (TVSZ) has begun shipping large-size castings (Barber S-2-HD bogie Side Frames and Bolsters) for North American freight cars.
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) has already approved the TVSZ castings, which can be used for unrestricted interchange services on all North American railroads.
TVSZ is expected to deliver up to five thousand car sets per year.
United Wagon Company business development deputy CEO Maxim Kuzemchenko said: “Start of shipments to the mature and competitive market of North America confirms the highest quality level of our products and compliance with the world standards.
“We keep on diversifying UWC business by using our competitive strengths and building relations with the industry leaders.”
TVSZ previously qualified in a Quality Management System audit that confirmed its compliance with AAR Specification M1003 and various other technical requirements.

The sample castings made in Tikhvin also met the static and dynamic structural test standards necessary for AAR approval.
All the evaluations were conducted in North America at an AAR-approved facility.
The freight castings made in Tikhvin will be installed on bogies such as Barber S-2-HD.
The S-2-HD is a standard 32.5t-force axle load bogie that has been approved for general usage, and as such can be equipped on all freight cars that operate in the US, Canada and in Mexico.
