UWC opened 14 new maintenance facilities
The Research and Production Corporation United Wagon Company has expanded its rolling stock maintenance facility network in the 1520-mm gauge area by 14 centres reaching 109 in the CIS and Baltic states covering Kazakhstan, Belarus and Lithuania.
The scheduled depot and overhaul maintenance of freight cars on 25-tonne axle-load bogies, produced at the enterprises of the Tikhvin Industrial Site, based in Leningrad region, can be carried out at 49 service centres now, increased by 17 centres compared to the end of 2020. The rest of the centres have spare part storage facilities for new generation cars to reduce their downtime due to uncoupling repair.
In 2020, UWC has expanded its rolling stock maintenance facility network opening service centres in Kazakhstan and Belarus. The centres, the Akmola Car Repair Plant JSC in Nur-Sultan, a private company, Kamkor Wagon in Karaganda and Pavlodar, a subdivision of the National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, and the Vitebsk Branch of the Belarusian Railway Unitary Enterprise (Vitebsk), are authorised to carry out depot and complete overhauls. UWC’s service centres in Kazakhstan opened in 2013, and the company has been developing partnership with the Belarusian Railway since 2015.
This year, Vitebsk Sawmill (Belarus) ordered from UWC a new generation of flat car fleet for timber transport. The new flat cars are expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2022.
“Speaking of the 1520-mm gauge space as a whole, we have a clear forecast for the development of scheduled maintenance activities for our freight rail cars. Our company is systematically increasing the number of service centres at routes with intense traffic, including those authorised to carry out all types of maintenance and repair operations. The number of Tikhvin freight cars operated in Belarus, Kazakhstan, and neighboring countries is growing, therefore we are expanding our service network internationally,” Igor Tkachev, Managing Director at Tikhvin Assembly Plant Titran-Express said.
