PJSC «Research and production corporation «United Wagon Company» («RPC UWC», the Group or the Company) (MOEX: UWGN), Russia’s largest manufacturer of freight cars in Russia1, and Lesresurs, LLC, a manufacturer of sawn timber, signed a contract for the supply of 70 40-ft flat cars for timbermounted on bogies with an axle load of 25 t. The freight cars are set to be delivered to the customer in Q2 2021.
UWC and Lesresurs have already had an experience of collaboration: the Group’s car manufacturing entity TikhvinSpetsMash delivered 50 40-ft flat cars for timber to the sawn wood manufacturer in 2019.
The 13-6852-02 flat car has an increased payload of 74 t and a loading length of 40 ft. The car’s outline is 1-Ta. Owing to the increased height of the racks, the loading volume of the flat car is 122 m3. The side racks have a constant cross section, which significantly reduces the unused space during the transportation of packaged goods and prevents them from damage in the course of loading and unloading operations.
The end wall design features improved strength. The holes in it provide more convenience in operation, in particular, during customs control of the cargo being transported. The structure of the centre sill and side beams enables convenient inspection, service and repair of brake equipment. The design of the car floor provides for convenient cleaning, prevents cargo residues from falling between the rails and has drainage holes to eliminate water.
A significant competitive advantage of the car is that it uses 18-9855 bogies: compared to a standard bogie, the running gear of the Tikhvin flat car offers an increased axle load of 25 t, high operational reliability, an improved design of bearing cast parts and a spring suspension system with wear-resistant elements. The 13-6852-02 flat car has maintenance intervals of 8 years (or up to 1 million km). The service life of the car is 40 years.
According to the press centre of Lesresurs, LLC, "Our company is proud of the quality of its products and controls it at all stages, not only throughout the production process, but also afterwards, during delivery to the consumer. Since the end of 2019, Tikhvin-made flat cars have been operating as part of the Lesresurs fleet. Based on the company's experience, we can safely say that such cars really have improved characteristics, in particular, they allow to preserve the integrity of the cargo and carry increased loads. These railcars get uncoupled for non-scheduled repairs many times less frequently than standard flat cars, while their operation provides much more economic benefits. This was the reason why we decided to once again turn to UWC for a new batch of timber flat cars".
