Public Joint Stock Company “Research and Production Corporation “United Wagon Company” (“RPC UWC” or the “Holding”) (MOEX: UWGN), the market leader in innovative railcar manufacturing in the 1520 mm gauge area, today announces its operating results for the third quarter of 2015.
In the reporting period, the number of railcars owned and operated by the Holding exceeded 25,000. UWC’s railcars are used by such cargo-generating and transport companies as SUEK, Kuzbassrazrezugol, NefteTransService, Kuzbasskaya Toplivnaya Company, En+, Uralchem, Rusagrotrans, Acron, Bashkhim, Sibur, Uralkali and others. The utilisation rate of the Holding’s owned railcars is 100%.
Vostok1520, the Holding’s transport subsidiary, has been steadily increasing freight traffic in new generation railcars, which has boosted company’s operating efficiency indicators. The transportation capacity of the railcars operated by Vostok1520 has increased to 13.5 thousand tonne-kilometres per railcar, twice as high as the railway network’s average. Cargo traffic volume and freight turnover grew by more than 1.5 times quarter-on-quarter to 3.5 million tonnes and 14.1 billion tonne-kilometres, respectively. In the nine months of 2015, freight traffic volume amounted to 7.3 million tonnes with freight turnover of 28.8 bln tonne-kilometres.
In the nine months of 2015, the Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant (TVSZ) produced 8.5 thousand railcars, a year-on-year increase of 1.6 thousand units. The total number of railcars produced since 2012 amounted to 23.4 thousand units.
The Holding is continuing to diversify its product range in order to increase its competitiveness in every market segment of railcar production. There were 11 freight railcar models certificated at TVSZ as of the end of the third quarter. Another 17 models are going through the certification process, including a grain hopper with a cubic capacity of 126m³, timber flat cars and a tank car for transporting technical sulphuric acid.
The new generation railcars keep demonstrating high operating reliability. In the nine months of 2015, the frequency of current uncoupling repairs for innovative railcars was 15 times lower than network’s average for old generation railcars. At the same time, the Holding continues to develop its service network and enhance car repair centres staff’s skills in maintaining railcars equipped with Barber bogie. In the third quarter of 2015, RPC UWC opened another 5 maintenance centres and now has 50 centres across the railway network of the CIS.
