Slavneft-YANOS signs contract with United Wagon Company for delivery of tank cars
Slavneft-YANOS (part of the Russian oil and gas company Slavneft) has signed a contract with Research and production corporation “United Wagon Company” (UWC or the Holding) (MOEX: UWGN) to supply 32 high-capacity tank cars for transportation of molten sulfur and sulfuric acid. Delivery is scheduled before the end of January 2019.
Model 15-6913 tank cars for transportation of molten sulfur have volume of 44 m3 and load capacity of 72 tons, enabling carriage of an extra 9 tons of cargo in comparison with analogues. The corrosion-resistant steel tank guarantees isolation of the hazardous cargo from the environment. The car is also equipped with thermal insulation (a double casing of stainless steel and an electric heating system), which offers energy savings during unloading.
The model 15-9545 tank car for transportation of sulfuric acid also has capacity of 44 m3 and load capacity of 77 tons, enabling carriage of an extra 8 tons of cargo in comparison with analogues. The tank has a broken axis, which ensures full drainage.
Both models have bogies with increased axle load of 25 tf, which significantly reduces life-cycle costs, mainly through longer intervals between scheduled maintenance. UWC’s tank cars have maximum run of 800,000 km (8 years of operation) before their first depot maintenance, compared with 250,000 km (2 years) for standard molten sulfur cars and 210,000 km (2 years) for standard sulfuric acid cars.
The new contract will raise the number of new generation UWC tank cars in the fleet of Slavneft-YANOS to 39. The companies have been partners since 2017, when UWC made a first delivery of tank cars to the oil company for transportation of molten sulfur.
