Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant has produced its 30,000-th freight car

Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant (TVSZ, part of the railway holding UWC) has produced its 30, 000-th freight car since the launch of the plant in January 2012. A jubilee mineral fertilizers hopper-car with increased load-carrying capacity has been dispatched for the world’s largest producer of potash fertilizers Uralkali under the previously signed purchase agreement for 400 hopper-cars.

The railway holding UWC has plans to increase a batch production of gondolas with unloading gates and 92 m3 body volume, as well as to arrange for the production of hopper-cars with increased body volume up to 120 m3 and 126 m3, the solid-bottom gondola car with 98 m3 body volume, the cement car with 72 m3 body volume, as well as a line of universal, fitting and special-purpose platforms with 80, 60 and 40 feet loading length. All cars are equipped with the enhanced load-carrying capacity bogie and increased between-repairs term of 800,000 km or 8 years, these benefits allow to reduce the cost of the car operational use and its life cycle by up to 3 times compared with model counterparts.

Besides, until the end of the year UWC intends to certify more than 10 models of different types of new generation freight cars manufactured by TVSZ, including those for heavy-weight traffic: the articulated gondola car with 135 m3 body volume and the gondola car with unloading gates and 108 m3 body volume. These cars have no counterparts in the CIS countries. Large-scale operational use of such cars will make it possible to increase the capacity of the railway network up to 40%.
