Tikhvin LPG tank cars to join fleet of Estonian railway group Skinest Rail
PJSC «Research and production corporation «United Wagon Company» (RPC UWC, the Group or the Company) (MOEX: UWGN), Russia’s largest manufacturer of freight cars1, and the railway group Skinest Rail (Estonia) have signed a contract for the supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank cars. The rolling stock will be operating in the Baltic states. A batch of 23 freight cars is scheduled to be shipped to the customer in June this year.
Skinest Rail will be the first CIS operator of the 15-6855 tank cars. This tank car has an increased tank volume of 86.7 m3 and is equipped with 25-t axle load bogies.
The key advantage of the car is that it uses innovative 18-9855 bogies having an increased maintenance interval of up to 1 million km or 8 years (for comparison, a typical tank car mounted on 18-100 or similar bogies is sent for its first depot maintenance upon completing 210 thousand km or 3 years, with the subsequent scheduled maintenance to be carried out after 110-160 thousand km or 3 years). The 15-6855 tank car’s service life is 40 years.
Andrey Krivchenkov, Executive Director at “TH “UWC”: “The UWC Group is systematically developing its export activities. The “1520” space outside Russia is of interest to us, and we are expanding the deliveries of new generation railcars of various types that have already proven themselves in the domestic market. Cooperation with such a reputable company as Skinest Rail is another step forward in the implementation of our export programme and an opportunity to show other market players the advantages of freight cars, particularly LPG tank cars, manufactured in Tikhvin.”
