TikhvinSpetsMash to produce container flat cars for 80-ton loads

TikhvinSpetsMash, a subsidiary of the rolling stock manufacturer, United Wagon Company, has obtained a certificate from FBO “Register of Certification on the Federal Railway Transport” for production of 40-foot flat cars to be used for transport of containers, including tank containers with hazardous loads.

The key competitive advantage of the model 13-6851-05 flat cars is enhanced reliability and safety in transportation of heavy containers, achieved by bogie designed for a high axle load of up to 25 tf and reinforcement of the main beam and container twistlocks. Use of a class-T3 draft gear provides ensures safe transportation of tank-containers with hazardous loads. Load capacity has been increased to 80 tons and the car is 14.62 m long, allowing the transportation of large containers with gross weight up to 36 tons.

The flat car was designed by the All-Union Research and Development Centre for Transportation Technology. The interval between scheduled repairs is 800,000 km or 8 years. Service life is 40 years.

Demand for flat cars has been growing in recent years due to containerization of freights and recovery in volumes of imports to Russia. Imports rose by 27.4% in January-July 2017 compared with the same period last year.
