TVSZ released first mass-produced cars on Barber bogies, found way into CIS and Baltic countries railway system
At the 55th meeting of the Council for Railway Transport’s Committee of specialists in rail car affairs from railway administration boards of CIS and Baltic counties held in the town of Tikhvin, the CJSC “Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant” has been given the green light for the operation of cars on Barber bogies with an axle load of 23.5 tf in the interstate transport system. In addition to that, the majority of railway administration boards favored the operation of Barber bogie with an enhanced axle load of 25 tf to be expanded on the territory of CIS countries. This will enable TVSZ’s products to be around within the entire 1520 gauge network.
In order to establish long-term cooperation with railway administration boards of CIS countries, the CJSC “Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant” entered into agreements, which imply the creation of service centers to recondition the cars produced at TVSZ using car-repair facilities of CIS countries, including for the purpose of maintenance repairs in an uncoupled condition, storage of Barber bogies’ parts and assemblies and provision of the components from external car-repair yards.
Over 100 specialists from 15 countries, representatives of RF Ministry of Transport, the Federal Agency for Railway Transport, Railway Transport Research Institute (VNIIZhT), as well as other branch organizations and machine-building companies participated in the work of the committee designed to deal with rail car affairs of CIS counties, Georgia, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Estonia.
As part of the visit to the Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant, an official release of the first mass-produced new generation freight cars equipped with Barber bogies took place. The chairman of the Council for Railway Transport, head of Rolling Stock Board of the Central Administration (department of infrastructure), a branch of the OJSC “RZD”, Sergey Goncharov, notes that “owning to the application of cutting-edge technologies in the design of a new bogie, TVSZ’s cars prove to be an innovative product and are meant to bring economic benefits both to the Russian and CIS rail roads and the owners.”
The head of Rolling Stock Board of the JSC “National Company “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” Syrbay Cadyrcizov gave the following comment on the agreement between the Kazakhstan rail road administration and the Tikhvin Freight Car Building plant, “We are content with the innovative car on Barber bogies and we are looking forward to getting it here in Kazakhstan. For starters, it will be used for the transportation of inert cargos: coal and crushed stone”.
“Access of the first mass-produced cars on Barber bogies to the railway network is a major and long-awaited event for all market players and it took considerable effort to confirm the claimed technical and economic performance of Barber bogie”, said CEO of the CJSC “Tikvin Freight Car Building Plant” Oleg Menshikov.
