United Wagon Company Announces H1 2015 operating results

Public Joint Stock Company  «Research and Production Corporation «United Wagon Company» (“RPC UWC” or the “Company”), the market leader in innovative railcar manufacturing in Russia and the CIS, today announces its operating results for the first half of 2015.

The Company’s IFRS consolidated revenue for the first half of 2015 exceeded RUB 17 bn.

The production volume of the next generation railcars stood at 5,900 units, representing a 1.3x year-on-year increase. In total, the Company has manufactured 20,800 railcars since the start of production in 2012.

The new product development remains a cornerstone of the Company’s strategy, with a particular focus on the diversification of the model line-up, including increased specialisation of railcar models, extended variety of the products as well upgrading of the existing models.

During the first half of 2015, the Company has developed 11 prototype models, which are currently undergoing certification testing, as well as 19 railcar models with improved technical and economic characteristics. As a result, larger body hopper and gondola cars, and chemicals tanks made of high-strength steel, aluminium alloys and composite materials are to be added to the RPC UWC’s product range. The Company plans to introduce up to 56 new railcar modifications by 2018.

As of 30 June 2015, RPC UWC’s own and managed fleet stood at 24 thousand railcars. RPC UWC’s leasing companies, operating under the RAIL1520 brand, is among the three largest operational leasing companies in Russia.

The volume of the Company’s leasing portfolio amounted to RUB 23.4 bn, with the client book increasing to 24 clients.

Barber bogie-based gondola cars continue to demonstrate high production capability with the average efficiency of 12.3 tonne/km per day, nearly twice the industry average. The cargo turnover stood at 4 mln tonnes or 15 bn tonne/km, mostly including coal, potash salt, sodium and construction materials.   

According to the railway network’s statistics, during the first half of 2015 the rate of uncoupling servicing repairs of the RPC UWC-manufactured innovative cars was 0.09 repairs per wagon per year, 16 times lower than average for the Russian rail fleet.
