United Wagon Company establishes the railway R&D center
United Wagon Company established the Centre for Transportation Technologies, a Design Office for experimental works, technological and scientific research in the freight rail industry. In 2014-2016 the engineering center plans to develop and set up more than 60 projects of new cost-effective railcars, bogies and components.
Centre for Transportation Technologies (CTT) combines leading industry specialists, 20 doctors and masters of Science, more than 100 designers and process engineers who worked at the largest car building plants in CIS. CTT consists of 12 departments active in the entire life cycle of rolling stock.
The main areas of the engineering center are design of freight cars, bogies and components, its maintenance and implementation of new design solutions and materials. Besides, competence of the design organization includes establishment of new and modernization of actual productions, support of production cost reduction and process optimization projects.
One of the key CTT’s purposes is development of freight bogies process technologies and further reduction of high-quality cost production of Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant (TVSZ is managed by UWC). R&D center participated in final stage of components production localization for innovative TVSZ freight cars that has already allowed improving the car characteristics and creating groundwork for output of new products, including railcar bogies with axle load of 27 t.
It’s important to note that at early stages of advanced cars production the key design and technological solutions are expect to be taken by the research and scientific center as a part of UWC.
The partners of Centre for Transportation Technologies are the national leading railway companies such as JSC “VNIIZhT”, Railcar-Building Engineering Centre, NVC Vagony, OJSC Altaivagon, Novokuznetsk Railcar Building Plant, Roslavl Railcar Repair Plant, CJSC Mogilev Carriage Works, as well as other international technology leaders in the field of car building.
Roman Savushkin, CEO at United Wagon Company said: “In order to maintain a competitive position we are constantly working on updating product line. Based on successful experience of Russian science and international partners, we are entering a new level of our company development. R&D center establishment will allow us to respond in time to market demand and anticipate its needs.”
