United Wagon Company expands its product range delivered to Mongolia

United Wagon Company has delivered a new batch of flat cars and boxcars to Bodi International LLC as part of cooperation with the Mongolian group of companies.

The universal flat car offers an increased payload of 77.5 tonnes and a loading length of 40 feet. The freight car is designed to carry wheeled and tracked vehicles, large-capacity containers and tank-containers for non-hazardous goods with a gross weight of up to 36 tonnes, as well as specialised containers with a gross weight of up to 40 tonnes. The use of a Class T-3 draft gear in the freight car enables it to transport hazardous materials.

The boxcar is fit for a wide range of cargoes owing to its balanced technical parameters: a payload of 73 tonnes and a body volume of 175 m3. The floor space allows for 44 loaded Euro pallets, which is one of the best capacities in the 1520-mm gauge area.

UWC won the contract for the delivery of freight cars to Mongolia back in 2020. Today, the country operates above 700 freight cars of various types manufactured in Tikhvin.

Banzragch Erdenebayr, Project Director at Bodi International LLC: “Mongolia continues to develop its rail infrastructure at the junction of transport corridors with Russia and China.  In 2022, almost 900 km of tracks were built in the country. This year, more than 1,000 kilometres of tracks are set for construction in several directions. In this regard, we are increasing our haul and freight rolling stock fleet. Freight cars from Tikhvin meet our payload and speed requirements, have been field tested under our conditions and have been operating reliably in our fleet for over 2 years.”
