United Wagon Company wins tender to supply 112 tank cars to GazpromTrans for transport of molten sulphur
Research and production corporation “United Wagon Company” (RPC UWC) will supply 112 tank cars for the transportation of molten sulphur to one of the largest Russian rolling stock operators, GazpromTrans, which provides freight forwarding services to enterprises of the Russian gas company Gazprom. Delivery of freight cars under the tender terms will begin in February 2018. The contract value is 952.477 million rubles.
The model 15-6913 tank car has a boiler made of corrosion-resistant steel and is superior to existing analogues by technical and economic criteria. Increased tank car volume (44 m3) and carrying capacity (72 tons) make it possible to transport an extra 9 tons of cargo. Efficient heat insulation and electric heating systems offer time and energy savings during unloading. Longer operating periods between overhauls (800,000 km or 8 years) reduce the life-cycle cost of the new generation cars by more than 3 times providing major competitive advantages.
The design of the new UWC tank car takes into consideration the lessons learnt during operation of old generation fleet and also takes account of remarks made by GazpromTrans following joint operational tests at Gazprom production sites in Orenburg and Astrakhan, where performance during loading and passage across overpasses were tested. This has ensured that the new car is maximally adapted to the infrastructure of GazpromTrans and its main consignees.
The tank cars for transportation of molten sulphur are manufactured at TikhvinChemMash, a subsidiary of UWC. Previously, a number of model 15-6913 cars have been delivered to the Russian Oil and Gas Company Slavneft and the chemicals holding PhosAgro.
