URALCHEM buys tank cars from TikhvinChemMash for ammonia transportation

The TikhvinChemMash plant (part of the railway holding United Wagon Company) has delivered a batch of new generation tank cars of Tpr dimension for transportation of ammonia to URALCHEM, which is the leading Russian producer of ammonium nitrate and one of the largest producers of mineral fertilizers in Russia, the CIS and Eastern Europe.

TikhvinChemMash’s new tank cars for transportation of ammonia offer substantial increase of capacity thanks to enlargement of cistern size to 92.7 m3 and of load capacity to 60.2 tons. Maximum cargo volume is increased by 5-10%.

Other advantages of the new tank cars include a shade protection system for transportation of ammonia with filling temperature as low as minus 33°C, built-in drainage and safety valves, and dimensional design that enables easy handling in loading bays of various types. The cars have service life up to 40 years.

Vsevolod Kovshov, Director of URALCHEM-TRANS LLC commented: "Our company is modernizing its transport assets. To date, the share of up-do-date rolling stock in the URALCHEM-TRANS fleet is about 10%. Expansion of the range of specialized railcars helps to improve our logistics work. We plan to expand our partnership with United Wagon Company to achieve gradual increase in the share of up-to-date rolling stock in our fleet."

Cooperation between URALCHEM and United Wagon Company began in 2013 with the signing of an agreement for long-term lease of new generation gondola and hopper cars built at the Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant (a subsidiary of United Wagon Company).
