UWC and Polish logistics company Laude Smart Intermodal S.A. sign contract for 1,000 flat cars with a loading length of 46 feet
Research and production corporation “United Wagon Company” (UWC, the Group or the Company) (MOEX: UWGN), Russia’s largest manufacturer of freight cars1, and the Polish logistics company Laude Smart Intermodal S.A. have signed a contract on the development and supply of 1,000 flat cars for the transportation of containers along the Russia–Poland transport corridor.
The model 13-6724 is the first flat car on the 1,520 mm track gauge space with a loading length of 46 feet and a loading capacity of 80 t. A notable feature of the car is its ability to transport a wide range of container types, including two non-standard specialized containers of up to 23 feet in length (20-foot containers with an increased body length of 6,058–7,010 mm) with a gross weight of up to 40 t. The service life of the car is 40 years. The car is equipped with bogies with an axle load of 25 t, which use cassette bearings, designed to reduce the frequency of uncoupling for current corrective maintenance fourfold compared with standard cars running on 23.5 t axle load bogies.
The flat cars are expected to be delivered by the end of 2021. The Group’s production site in the town of Tikhvin has produced two prototypes of the model. A full range of stationary, endurance and performance tests are expected to be carried out by the end of this year, for certification in accordance with the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union ‘On the safety of railway rolling stock’ by Q1 2021.
Taking into account the latest contract, the number of Tikhvin-produced cars commissioned for Laude Smart Intermodal S.A.’s fleet will rise to 1,841 units, including 641 model 13-6851-01 flat cars for operation on the 1,520 mm track gauge and 200 Sgmmns flat cars for use on the 1,435 mm track gauge.
