UWC completed supply of box cars for Kuchukterminal

Research and Production Corporation “United Wagon Company” (“UWC”, the “Group” or “Company”) (MOEX: UWGN), Russia’s largest manufacturer of freight cars1, shipped 100 box cars manufactured in Tikhvin to the fleet of Kuchukterminal, LLC, a member entity of LTB, an international logistic group of companies.

With the latest delivery taken into account, Kuchukterminal now operates a total 220 box cars mounted on 25-t axle load bogies. The rolling stock was manufactured at the facility of TikhvinSpetsMash in Tikhvin. Cooperation of the companies began in 2017.

The 11-6874 box car is purposed for transportation of a wide range of unit and bulk cargoes and is distinguished by an increased capacity of 73 t and increased body volume of 175 m3. Such characteristics make it possible to increase the car load by more than 7% or 5 tons of cargo. The car design uses ergonomic solutions which render its operation more convenient: checker floor plates facilitating better traction of the loader’s wheels in the course of cargo handling operations, lash slings to simplify cargo securing inside the car, etc.

The car’s inner side walls are fit for installation of nondetachable equipment, as well as a non-detachable device to facilitate opening the doors. Dimensions of the doorway enable cargo loading and unloading with all existing types of forklift trucks. A reliable door locking mechanism ensures the cargo safety. The railcar has various design options such as those with upper and lateral loading hatches which contributes to a quicker and simpler loading of bulk cargoes.

The box car is equipped with 18-9855 bogies with 25-t axle load, which provides extra advantages in the market, in particular, because it extends the maintenance interval up to 1 million km (or 8 years). The service life of the railcar is 32 years.

Dmitry Bychkov, Head of box car division at Kuchukterminal: “Our company is developing rapidly. We have been putting consistent effort into increasing our cargo fleet, in which box cars, including new generation cars manufactured in Tikhvin, represent a significant share. Cooperation between our companies has been growing for some years now, and our experience of operation of UWC’s railcars has shown how they are more efficient and reliable than similar models available in the market. I am sure that the expansion of our fleet of new generation cars will further raise the level of our services rendered by us both in Russia and the near abroad”.

According to expert estimates, the box car transportation market has been stable over the past few years. The demand for new railcars in this segment will be stimulated by decommissioning: by 2022, more than 5 thousand units will be removed from service, which accounts for 8% of the existing box car fleet.
