UWC receives a certificate for a new model of tank car for transporting chemicals

The Research and Production Corporation "United Wagon Company" ("RPC UWC," the " Group" or the "Company") (MOEX: UWGN), Russia’s largest manufacturer of freight cars[1], has been granted a certificate from Federal Railway Certification Register for a new model of tank car for transporting chemicals, mounted on a 25 t axle load bogie. The first production run of these freight cars, for the transportation and logistics company RN-Trans JSC (a subsidiary of NK Rosneft PJSC), has been completed.

The tank car has a load capacity of 73 t and a volume of 88 m3, 15 m3 (or 7 t) more than other similar freight cars on the market, which are mounted on 23.5 t bogies. Maximum efficiency and economy are achieved when the tank car is used to transport technical spirits, liquid hydrocarbons and other liquid chemicals.

The tank car is hermetically sealed and has a bent-axis design to ensure maximum drainage. The upper part of the tank is fitted with a discharge valve that prevents excess pressure in the tank and the formation of a vacuum.

The drainage and filling connection and loading hatch are protected with an outer cover, which means that a single-element seal can be applied. The tank car has additional raised platforms, making the car more convenient to service.

The tank car is mounted on innovative 25 t axle load bogies and has extended intervals between scheduled servicing, which gives a notable competitive advantage over those mounted on 18-100 and other similar bogies.

Ivan Mikhalevich, Sales Director at UWC: “In response to a request from our customer, we have custom designed a new model of tank car which can be used to transport chemicals with a density of up to 1,036 t/m3. In fact, these cars are the only ones on the market licensed to effectively carry such range of loads. While working on the manufacture of this car our focus was on creating a “customized” product, wherever possible adapting the design specifically to meet the customer’s requirements. This allowed us to create a reliable and effective product that represents a better competitive choice for customers. We hope that this model of tank car will be of interest to the main companies in the market. I would like to stress that UWC is continuing with its policy of diversifying its product ranges and distribution channels, so that it can quickly adapt to changes in demand and ensure that its products remain a competitive choice and meet customers’ requirements.”
