VM-Trans will purchase up to 3,000 new generation freight cars from United Wagon Company

Research and Production Corporation “United Wagon Company” (“RPC UWC” or “the Holding”) (MOEX: UWGN) and railway operator VM-Trans have agreed on the delivery of up to 3,000 of new generation freight cars of various types. The shipment of the first batch is scheduled in the first quarter of this year.

During 2016-2017 United Wagon Company will supply the transportation company with gondola cars and hopper cars with increased load-carrying capacity, manufactured at Tikhvin Freight Car Building Plant (TVSZ, it is part of RPC UWC).

The gondola car, produced at TVSZ, provides the optimal balance of load-carrying capacity (77 t) and the volume of the car’s body (92 м³) when mass types of freight are transported in it. One of the competitive advantage of TVSZ hopper car is the application of the bogie with 25 tf load in the car’s construction and the optimal volume of the car’s body (101 m3), which ensures the increased, up to 76.5 t, loading (up to +6 t of freights compared to analogues). The hopper car is fully compatible with existing infrastructure and it can be used in all types of loading-unloading terminals.

The company VM-Trans plans to both operate the purchased fleet, and pass it to shippers under long-term lease conditions.

General Director of VM-Trans Alexander Sergeev: “We considered various proposals existing on the market, but at the end of the day resolved to cooperate precisely with the Tikhvin cars which characteristics allow to transport more freights and to ensure uninterrupted traffic, since there are hardly ever uncoupling of cars into current uncoupling repair. All that significantly improves the economics of rail traffic”.
